Spending a high pick on a defender can be risky, especially in fantasy Premier League, where the pace of play and the high demand of tackling means that it is difficult to tell an average defender from an elite one, Also, the dropoff with defenders versus what you might get from picking an electric midfielder or forward is potentially steep. But you have to have defenders, and there are an elite few who can turn your matchup on their own....

Strikers have it the easiest when it comes to accumulating points in FPL: scoring a goal is 4 points, and assisting a goal is 3 points. If you can find a prolific striker to put up front, then you can sit back and watch as the points start effortlessly rolling in. Many people struggle to decide on which strikers to select for their FPL squad, which is natural. You might think that going for the “big names” will secure you points, but that’s not necessarily the case....

Not surprisingly, the early storylines revolve around injuries and rotations. Some of the best RBs in football — Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, and JK Dobbins — are coming off huge injuries. Saquon Barkley, Dalvin Cook, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt have all spent considerable time on the injury reports over the past year. Najee Harris has revealed his training camp injury was actually a sprained Lisfranc in his foot....

Elijah Mitchell (knee), D’Andre Swift (shoulder), Kareem Hunt (knee), and Damien Harris (hamstring) were the key backs who missed last week’s games because of injuries, and it’s unclear if any will be back this week. At this point, it would be somewhat surprising if Swift returned, but the other three could be legit game-time decisions. Jamaal Williams, Phillip Lindsay, and Alexander Mattison were notable backs who missed last week because of COVID protocols, but Williams (@ Falcons) is the only one who would have considerable value if he returned this week (which he likely will)....

Who’s Not: Carlos Ruiz predictably regressed after the best season of his career in 2012. It’s unlikely he’ll come close to those numbers again. … Is age catching up to Jimmy Rollins? The 35-year-old shortstop saw his power drop from 23 homers in ‘12 to just six last year despite playing in 160 games. Who’s Hurt: Ryan Howard played 80 games in 2013 before undergoing knee surgery. He appears to be healthy, but at age 34 and having played just 151 games combined the last two years, fantasy owners should not bank on a full campaign from him....

Nonetheless, as we do every week this season with the help of our friends at Fantasy Alarm, we’ll break down the top pickups and project how much of your FAAB budget you should bid on them, at least in normal circumstances. If you feel the need to bid 100 percent of your budget on a specific player, go for it. The projected bids below are just to give you a sense of a player’s general value....

As is often the case early in the year, we mostly have our eye on pass-catchers, as guys like Mack Hollins, DeVante Parker, Tre’Quan Smith, and Josh Reynolds are coming off big games have plenty of short-term and long-term upside. There are plenty of receivers (does anyone want Greg Dortch?), a few tight ends (Tyler Conklin, anyone?) and one soon-to-be starting QB (free Kenny!) on our full free agent list....

The next game in the long-running Far Cry franchise from Ubisoft is official, and it goes by the title of Far Cry Primal. While Far Cry Primal won’t feature dinosaurs as previously rumored, it will showcase other extinct animals, including sabertooth tigers and woolly mammoths. Set 12,000 years in the past, the game stars Takkar, a hunter stranded in a valley called Oros, not long after the Earth’s most recent Ice Age....

Given the game’s terrible reception, it was perhaps inevitable that Bandai Namco Entertainment would abandon the game eventually. That is about to happen sooner than some might expect, as Fast and Furious: Crossroads will be pulled from online storefronts next month. The publisher plans to officially delist the game at 4 AM Central European Time, or 10 AM Eastern/7:00 PM Pacific on April 29th, 2022....

Tampa Bay quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 400-plus yards and four touchdowns, while adding another 36 yards and a score with his legs. Two of Fitzpatrick’s top weapons, DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans, cracked the 100-yard threshold and accounted for three of the receiving touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, the New Orleans was forced to play catch-up, leading Drew Brees to attempt 45 passes, the majority going toward Michael Thomas (16 catches, 180 yards, one TD) and Alvin Kamara (9-112-1)....
