For Xbox users that have pulled up the store, there was likely a shock at the price point for the Game of the Year edition. Far Cry 6 is listed at $119.99, doubling the price of the standard version upon initial release. The newest edition also dwarfs the Far Cry 6 deluxe ($79.99) and gold ($99.99) edition release prices.

Far Cry 6 was initially released on October 7, 2021, meaning that the leak of the Game of the Year edition price comes on the game’s one-year anniversary. At the Game Awards 2021, Far Cry 6 was nominated for three awards, none of which were for Game of the Year. The game was nominated for Best Performance (Giancarlo Esposito), Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Action Game, but didn’t take home any of the awards.
The $120 price tag has left a lot of people baffled. The standard edition of the game can be purchased for as low as $19.99 for a new copy in some stores, and even the gold edition on the Xbox Store is listed at $39.99 for Xbox Live Gold members and comes with all of the Far Cry 6 DLC content. The $80 difference between the gold and GOTY editions of Far Cry 6 is the addition of the Lost Between Worlds expansion.
It will be interesting to see how many fans are willing to pay such an amount for the campaign expansion. Sales for Far Cry 6 were strong when it was initially released in October 2021. While $120 is certainly a lot for any edition of a game, it still doesn’t come close to being one of the most expensive. After all, Saints Row 4 had a $1 million pre-order edition.
Far Cry 6 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
