Most people who know of Giancarlo Esposito know him as Gus Fring in the award-winning crime dramas Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. His cold, menacing demeanor as Gus has been felt heavily during his portrayal of Anton Castillo, but now it appears that Far Cry 6 may possess a reference to a line Esposito said in Better Call Saul.

In a post by a Reddit user by the name of akanxh_007, the user notices how during an interrogation scene, Castillo remarks on how if a dog refuses to break, then “we must put him down.” This line seems to mirror another line that Gus says in an episode of Better Call Saul, while talking to Hector Salamanca in a hospital.
As far as references to Giancarlo Esposito’s role as Gus Fring goes, this one seems like a bit of a stretch. The lines may be quite similar, but their formatting seems too different. Not to mention the fact that Gus has a laundry list of iconic moments from both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul for Ubisoft to potentially pull from, should the studio want to include some sort of Easter Egg.
If there’s one thing that Far Cry is best known for, it is its villains. Some of the best video game villains ever written have come from Far Cry, such as characters like Vaas Montenegro and Pagan Min. However, from what has been shown so far, Giancarlo Esposito has portrayed his character quite well, with same level of threatening malice that the actor knows how to pull off masterfully. Anton Castillo will likely fit right in with the rest of Far Cry’s greatest villains.
It will be interesting to see what else Far Cry 6 has to offer its players. After being delayed numerous times, it’s exciting to see all of this new information surface with regards to the game. While there’s still a lot for players to find out, it seems almost certain that Ubisoft will reveal more in the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event at E3 2021.
Far Cry 6 launches October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
