While prices for defenders and goalkeepers go through very minimal change from season to season, attacking players see huge jumps in their value. Popular players from one season usually become more expensive in the next and lose their appeal for fantasy team managers.

Fantasy deadline day is less than a week away so here’s a look at key players whose values have changed this season:

#10 Dusan Tadic – £6.8m to £7.5m

Dusan Tadic had a promising first season with Southampton when he became their first signing under Ronald Koeman in 2014. Last season was just an improvement on that performance for him, if not for the whole team. Tadic was valued at £6.8m last season.

However, a tally of eight goals and 13 assists got him a total of 157 points thus raising his value to £7.5m for the 2016-17 season. He was a bargain last time and was likely to get you decent points but unless he improves any further, he might not be worth the extra money anymore.

#9 Harry Kane – £10.2m to £11m

Harry Kane was England’s great big hope for Euro 2016 after a tally of 25 goals in the Premier League last season. However, England underperformed yet again and Kane was in abysmal form. That performance didn’t affect his fantasy price, though.

Kane was valued at £6.0m for the 2013-14 season but after he scored a total of 21 goals, his price shot up to £10.2 for the next season. The recipient of last season’s Golden Boot is valued at an even higher £11.0m this time. If Kane continues scoring the way he has, he is sure to become as expensive as City’s Sergio Aguero.

#8 Andre Ayew – £6.6m to £7.5m

Andre Ayew moved to Swansea City ahead of the new season last year on a free transfer and made his mark almost immediately. He scored on his debut for the club against a floundering Chelsea and became a key factor in Swansea’s success for the rest of the season.

He was valued at a modest £6.6m last season but after a total of 171 points, 12 goals and 5 assists, Ayew’s value has gone up to £7.5m. Here’s hoping he justifies the rise in price and doesn’t remain a one season wonder.

#7 Dimitri Payet – £8.6m to £9.5m

Dimitri Payet was a revelation when he started for West Ham United at the start of last season. His technique and skill had everyone raving about him – not to mention his knack at scoring from free-kicks. Valued at £8.6m last year, having Payet in your team meant you reaped the rewards of his 171 points (same as Ayew), 9 goals and 13 assists.

Payet was in form for France during 2016 and there is no reason why he should be otherwise, at the start of the brand new season. Although, choosing Payet will now set you back a higher £9.5m.

#6 Georginio Wijnaldum – £6.7m to £8.0 m

Georginio Wijnaldum was the only bright spark in a disappointing Newcastle side last season. He was always instrumental in their victories and scored their most significant goals. In a year that they were relegated, he was their top goal scorer. Wijnaldum accumulated a total of 170 points after 11 goals and 6 assists and was a good bargain at £6.7m last season.

The Dutchman is still available for selection for the Fantasy League as he has moved to Liverpool since. His price has subsequently gone up to £8.0m and now with a better set up around him at Liverpool is likely to be worth the extra money.

#5 Troy Deeney – £5.3 m to £7m

Troy Deeney was a smart buy last season at just £5.3m. The striker found the back of the net often enough to make him a favourite with fantasy team managers. The Watford captain rewarded those who had faith in him with 166 points after 13 goals and 9 assists.

Impressive performances has lead to a rise in his value this year. At £7.0m he is still quite the bargain, especially if Watford continues their previous form.

#4 Odion Ighalo – £5.6m to £7.5 m

Odion Ighalo was the perfect strike partner for Troy Deeney throughout last season. Ighalo was a huge contributor to Watford’s finish in the league and an extremely popular pick among fantasy team managers at £5.6m.

He scored 16 goals and made 6 assists amassing a total of 175 fantasy points. Ighalo is sure to be a favourite among managers this season inspite of a higher price tag of £7.5m; still cheap for a proven striker.

#3 Riyad Mahrez – £7.2 m to £9.5 m

When Riyad Mahrez started coming into his own at Leicester at the start of last season, everyone watching couldn’t believe he had escaped the notice of the traditional big clubs. The Algerian impressed with his swift dribbling and fine finishing. He was absolutely deserving of the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award in May 2016.

He racked up a huge total of 240 points after 17 goals and 11 assists, which was great since his value was a mere £7.2m. His price has gone up since then – he is worth £9.5m now, which might make him a little less attractive to managers this year, especially if the figure of a struggling Mahrez at the Community Shield against Manchester United was anything to go by. Only time will tell.

#2 Jamie Vardy – £7.4m to £10.0m

Jamie Vardy was the star of last season. His every performance for Leicester was a testament to his dedication and ability. Climbing all the way up from non-division football to the first division, Vardy proved his worth by scoring repeatedly for the Foxes. He lost out on the Golden Boot by just one goal.

For £7.4m, he was quite a bargain especially since he netted 24 goals, made 8 assists and got a total of 211 points by the end.

Unfortunately for fantasy team managers, Vardy’s price has gone up to £10.0m and no longer the bargain he used to be. He has been put in the same bracket as the likes of Kane and Hazard thus changing the dynamics of team selection from last season.

#1 Delle Alli – £5.9m to £8.5m

Dele Alli was gradually introduced into the Tottenham Hotspur first team at the start of last season. The 19-year-old quickly made himself an indisposable part of the starting lineup. He scored 166 points after scoring 10 goals and making 12 assists.

He was a great buy for his price which was just £5.9m, Alli’s price has been driven up since then to £8.5m this season. If his form from May continues, he may very well be worth the new price tag.
